Brunch Jan. 6th, 2010 @ 10:38 pm
[info]laurea_anarore, posting in [info]vancouver
Hello,

My colleagues and I are looking for a good place to go for a New Years brunch on Saturday the 16th. I know the topic of brunch has been discussed to death in this community over the years, but I have a couple of specific requirements (and the memories don't get updated):

- we will likely have at least eight people, and might need to add an extra person or two at the last minute, so all of the lovely but small breakfast joints in the city won't work.
- it has to be reasonably priced - not more than $20 including taxes and tip and whatnot.
- a few people will be driving in from the 'burbs so they would prefer if there is easy parking nearby - which makes Broadway more attractive than downtown.
- it has to be at least decently healthy. The likes of Denny's and White Spot are absolutely NOT what we are looking for.
- this is really just a personal one, but who has good, homemade hashbrowns? I like big chunks of potatoes with my eggs, not deep fried mushy stuff.

My own suggestion is O'Doul's on Robson because average brunch entrees are between $13-$16, they take reservations, their food is delicious and they can easily seat large parties.

Honestly, if there's nothing that suits us better, I'll just try and push them to go for O'Doul's... I just know that my suburbanite colleagues don't want to deal with driving downtown.

Do any of the hotels on Broadway have restaurants which would suit our needs?

Thanks!

Thanks to anyone who can help me out! :)

I want to buy multiple blank American Apparel t-shirts for screenprinting. Is there somewhere that I can buy these locally for bargain-cheap, or can I buy them bargain-cheap at american apparel (the store)? Their website seems to list their plain ol' t-shirts at 18.00 and that is, quite frankly, way the hell too expensive.

Alternatively, does anybody know of a non-skeazy/dependable website where I could order these t-shirts in semi-bulk for a better price? Is expecting these shirts at 5-6 bucks a pop totally unreasonable? I mean, that's still a profit margin for them of approximately $5.75.

Thanks. You're a pal(s).

So I'm just watching Global News right now, and there was a story about how during the Olympics, Translink is allowing this religious group, More than Gold, to stand around skytrain stations, pestering people. Thank fucking goodness I will be in Maui!

Hey Vancouver
My business partner and I are doing an edgy bridal portrait shoot for a new direction we are taking our wedding photography business, and are in need of a couple of wedding dresses for this Saturday. We are happy to rent them or pay a deposit for their use, or if you have a simple white gown (doesn't have to be a wedding dress) that you would like to sell for a reasonable price please let me know. We looked at buying one, and the prices are just too out of our budget. They will be used indoors in a studio with professional models so they will be safe!

Specific style of the shoot? Think rockabilly/ funky/ 50s retro, so a simple dress is better.

Climbing Shoes Jan. 5th, 2010 @ 01:55 pm
[info]laurea_anarore, posting in [info]vancouver
Hello,

I need beginner climbing shoes. Cliffhanger's $5 rental fee will add up quickly over time, and won't help me in the summer when I go climbing outside.

I've found these for $79 at MEC. Should I just go with this, or should I shop around a little more? (I have a tendency to just stick with MEC because it's so convenient.) Where else could I go in Van for climbing shoes? Does Coast Mountain Sports sell them? Their website gives no info. Can anyone recommend a particular shop on West 4th or on Broadway near MEC (two areas where outdoor sporting good shops have conglomerated)?

Thanks!

Any leads on where I can donate my mac g4?
I know, it's a desktop and it's a mac *and* it only has OSX so chances are slim it's needed anywhere but better than chucking it out right?

That being said I also have an adolecent sized life jacket (60-90lbs)....

Cheers!

I've changed internet providers-Shaw arrived this morning to hook up the connection which was when i discovered that their service isn't wireless.

So if i don't want to be stuck in one spot i need to buy a wireless router. Any advice on what would be the best one to buy (i use a macbook) that won't lead to me pulling my hair out in frustration?? I'm an idiot when it comes to technology setup!

Thanks in advance :)

So, a whole bunch of my LiveJournal friends who don't even know each other filled out various permutations of this survey, so I figured that if they thought it was worthwhile, I might as well fill it out myself.

What is your favorite place to pick up a loaf of fancy (or just plain good) artisan bread? Price vs quality?

Check out this song/video from MC LARS called “Reaping Beauty“, it’s based on the upcoming SEGA Video game Bayonetta.

The song features rappers MC LARS, Beefy, and Random with Tina Root from Switchblade Symphony/ Small Halo singing

the hook. The song was produced by Jason Bazinet from SMP and mixed by Chris DeMarcus of Stiff Valentine.

About the Game: Bayonetta is an action game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, directed by Devil May Cry and Viewtiful

Joe creator Hideki Kamiya at Platinum Games in cooperation with publisher Sega. Set in a fictional city in Europe, the game

centers on its title character Bayonetta, who uses pistols and magical attacks to defeat enemies. The game has five difficulty

settings; its two easiest settings contain a game mode playable with only one button, similar to a mode used in Devil May

Cry. Its developers designed its characters with modern style and fashion in mind, and composed for it a largely upbeat and

feminine soundtrack.

Bayonetta takes place in Vigrid, a fictional city in Europe. The titular character is a witch who shapeshifts and uses various

firearms, along with magical attacks she performs with her own hair, to dispatch her foes. Bayonetta faces angelic and

warrior-like enemies that confront and challenge her for reasons she is unaware. She awakens after a 500 year sleep and

finds herself in an unfamiliar area with no memories of who or what she is. Over time, she begins to remember what caused

her current predicament. 500 years before the incident that caused Bayonetta’s memory loss, there were two factions of

warriors—the Umbra Witches, who are followers of darkness and their counterparts, the Lumen Sages, are followers of

light.

Christ, I hope they all fall off a cliff. Or something.
